Abattoir Gallery is thrilled to share the news that Lauren Yeager's sculpture Longevity Vessel has been acquired by the Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh. Known for her inventive use of found materials, Yeager re-imagines commonplace objects as sculptural components. She references classical and modernist forms through sculptures that recover and elevate the value of these reclaimed objects. As she states,
“My practice is a continual process of collecting…and re imagining commonplace objects as sculptural components. This pursuit..enhances my ability to perceive my surroundings as a bank of possibilities, to add value to things that have been devalued.”
Longevity Vessel was part of the 2023 Venice Architecture Biennale at the United States pavilion. Everlasting Plastics was organized by Tizziana Baldenebro and Lauren Leving under the aegis of SPACES gallery in Cleveland. The exhibition and catalog examined the ways that plastics both shape and erode our world, while also suggesting possible alternatives and necessary re-imaginings for the ways in which plastics are employed.
Following its premier in Venice, the exhibition toured to the Carnegie Museum of Art in 2024 and is currently on view in its final iteration at SPACES in Cleveland, which opens tonight, Friday, September 26th from 6pm - 9pm.
